If you like consistent success in your conference, then you’ll like Murray State’s head coach. Steve Prohm, 40, has helped the Racers win their division or some sort of conference title in all 4 of his seasons as their head coach.

Prohm started out with a bang at Murray State in the 2011-12 season, guiding the Racers to a 31-2 record, a Missouri Valley regular season and tournament title, and a victory in the NCAA Tournament. Since then, the Racers have won at least 21 games in his next 3 seasons, including 29 in the 2014-15 season.

Although Murray State hasn’t made the NCAA Tournament since his first season, he did help the Racers win the CIT Tournament in 2014 and led them to an undefeated conference record in 2014-15.

Murray State understandably doesn’t want to see its most successful coach leave them. Just a few days ago, Murray State signed Prohm to an extension that raised his annual pay to $500,000. His new contract would make negotiating a deal difficult.

The Vols have been rumored to have some interest in Prohm, and his success at a small school certainly speaks to his ability as a head coach. But he may command too high of a price for so young of a coach, something the Vols may not be willing to give into just yet.
