By far the youngest and least proven coach on the list, Will Wade, 32, is the second Tennessee-native head coach up for consideration on this list. Wade was born in Nashville and has been the head coach of the Chattanooga Mocs for the last 2 seasons.
Before taking over at Chattanooga, Wade was an assistant at VCU under head coach Shaka Smart for 4 seasons. Then in 2013, Wade accepted Chattanooga’s offer to become their head coach. In 2 seasons, Wade has finished 2nd in the Southern Conference both seasons and won 22 games last season.
Wade may not have much experience as a head coach, but his time under Smart is certainly valuable, and he is believed to have a very high ceiling as an up-and-coming coach.
While Wade would easily be the cheapest hire the Vols could make, he might also be the most unforeseen hire. Wade may have a bright future in coaching, but landing the job at Tennessee this early in his career may be a bit premature.
