Tariq Owens, who was recently granted a release from Tennessee’s basketball team, has committed to St Johns, according to ESPN.

Owens will have three years of eligibility remaining.

The 6’10” forward from Odenton, MD started in five games for the Vols as a freshman this past season. In 28 games, he averaged 1.2 points per game while playing 7.6 minutes per game.

Owens’ departure from Tennessee leaves new head coach Rick Barnes with a significant hole to fill.

Low post players aren’t always easy to find, but Barnes has a great reputation on his side. He shouldn’t have any problem bringing talent to Rocky Top.
