Romello White’s Reopening Should Not Concern Vol Fans

Four-star power forward Romello White reopened his recruitment via Twitter Tuesday night.

White, who is out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, was the lone recruit committed for the 2016 class. He was the last recruit of the one year stop for Donnie Tyndall, and he noted that the new coaching staff was the reason for the change.

Volunteer fans should not be concerned by this. It is often said that recruits are supposed to commit to a school, and not a coach, but that is just not the case for many recruits. The school is not the one coming to their games, and the school is not the one coming into their homes, it is the coaching staff.

Therefore, it’s only natural that a kid would want to shop around.

This does not mean that White will not come back to the University of Tennessee, but he may not even have a chance to do that.

It has been well documented that Rick Barnes does not have a problem bringing in talent. Barnes has helped put 17 players in the NBA.

His history, added with the staff of Rob Lanier, Chris Ogden, and Desmond Oliver, means that the Vols are serious contenders for kids on the recruiting trail. Lanier and Ogden have combined for 14 Mcdonald’s All-Americans, and 16 NBA draft selections, while Oliver brings in 19 years of coaching experience at the division one level.

Sure, you have probably heard this spiel more times than you can count since he has been hired, but that is because it is impressive.

Romello White is a tremendous talent, and is ranked as the 55th best prospect in the country by 247sports.com, so he will obviously be missed if he decides to go elsewhere.

But with the track record of the staff, and Barnes, it is just hard to be concerned with it at this point.
