Joshua Dobbs came into the spring as the undisputed starting quarterback for the Vols, and he made it through spring practices without that ever being questioned. What was a bit surprising, however, was how much progress early enrollee Quinten Dormady made.
Dormady should still be a senior in high school, but he certainly didn’t look like a high schooler once the spring ended. Dormady came in with a big arm and a lot to learn, and he left the spring looking much more polished than anticipated and with more moxy than freshmen QB’s generally have.
The big question facing Dormady in the fall will be how he handles the competition from fellow freshman Sheriron Jones once he joins the team in the summer. Jones may be more athletic overall, but Dormady will have the leg up after going through spring practices and conditioning.
Jauan Jennings made some strides as a quarterback in the spring, but it’s looking more like his highest ceiling will be as a wide receiver. Jennings is extremely athletic and tough, but he lacks the nuances and accuracy it takes to be a premier SEC quarterback.
