Tennessee’s 2015 signing class was one of their most impressive signing classes in years, and it was highlighted by stud defensive tackle Kahlil McKenzie.
McKenzie is a five-star defensive tackle that was rated by all the recruiting services as one of the top overall players in the nation.
The Vols are hoping that McKenzie can deliver on the hype surrounding him year one. If he can have a year that’s anywhere close to what UT defensive end Derek Barnett had last season, then the Volunteers will be in business.
NFL.com is just one of many media outlets that believes McKenzie will deliver and be one of the top impact freshmen in the nation in 2015.
Here’s what they had to say about the talented defensive lineman:
"Derek Barnett came in as a true freshman last year for the Vols and exploded into a nearly unblockable player. Many around Rocky Top are hoping that McKenzie, the son of Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie, will do the same. Fellow freshman Shy Tuttle enrolled in the spring and has a bit of a head start on McKenzie, but there’s little doubt McKenzie has the ability to come in and solidify the middle of the defense early on."
If you’re a fan of the Vols, it’s hard not to be insanely excited about the potential of a defensive line that includes Curt Maggit, Derek Barnett, Shy Tuttle and Kahlil McKenzie.
If those four play to even half of their potential, then I feel sorry for the rest of the SEC East.
