21. 2001 College World Series

This was one of Head Coach Rod Delmonico’s finest years while running the Tennessee Vols baseball program from 1990 to 2007. They were led by future Top 10 pick Chris Burke, who could literally play every position on the field.

The team finished second in the SEC East and made it in as a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament. After knocking out Middle Tennessee, and Tennessee Tech, they knocked out Wake Forest and then beat East Carolina in the Super Regionals.

Then came the College World Series, and despite failing to win it, the Vols put up a fight. Unfortunately, they could not handle the bats of the Miami Hurricanes and got eliminated after losing to them twice, 21-13 the first time and 12-6 the second time.

But this was still a very memorable year for the baseball team altogether, as this was its first College World Series appearance since 1995, the year the team decided to ultimately make the switch from Nike to Adidas in the first place.

And hey, there is absolutely no shame in being knocked out by the Miami Hurricanes, a program with great baseball tradition that went on to win the national championship that year anyway without losing a game in the tournament.
