23. Tennessee Football Wins the 2007 SEC East Championship

This still remains the last decent Tennessee Vols football season, and it was the final good season under head coach Phil Fulmer.

You simply cannot narrow this down to one game. The moment was the encompassing stretch run the Vols made to end the season. They had a senior quarterback in Erik Ainge and a veteran offense, but a 1-2 start with blowout losses to Cal and Florida made things look bleak. Then, Florida was stunned by Auburn and LSU and the Vols blew out a very good Georgia team, and they were back in the driver’s seat.

But in a roller coaster season, they got blown out by Alabama two weeks later only to see Georgia then beat Florida. All of a sudden, Tennessee and Georgia both had two losses with the Vols having the tiebreaker, and Florida had three. Then, down the stretch, Tennessee barely held onto win the East thanks to three missed field goals to win by three in overtime against South Carolina, by one against Vanderbilt, and by two in four overtimes on the road against Kentucky.

It was the craziest road to winning the East, but after the Vols held on that final Saturday in November against the Wildcats on the road, they stood atop the division despite probably being the third best team in the East that year.

The 21-14 loss to LSU a week later hurt, but the road to the division championship was one of the most fun rides you could go on.
