This was just another way for the men’s college basketball Gods to prove to Tennessee Vols fans that their program is cursed for some reason. Nobody will ever be able to figure out why.

But after the Bruce Pearl fiasco, the unfair treatment of Cuonzo Martin, and the loss of Pearl to Auburn, Dave Hart had appeared to find Butch Jones’s twin to coach the basketball team in Donnie Tyndall. And early on, Tyndall was recruiting well. The future was bright.

Then came recruiting allegations and investigations into what he did at Southern Miss. All of a sudden staff members resigned. Recruits de-committed. What Vols fans had hoped was finally the stability needed in the program was just a worse version of what got Bruce Pearl fired to begin with.

The curse seemed more prudent than ever.

Tyndall’s Vols played their way to a respectable .500 season despite a very thin roster. But it was all irrelevant. He was gone the minute the season was over.

And once again, Tennessee basketball fell.
