Overseeing so many different sports is also a reason to put Clark on this list. In 2011-2012, he became the cross-country head coach and the director of the entire track and field department, including men’s and women’s. It was a well-deserved title.

The Vols did not renew Clark’s contract in 2014, but his success up to that point is something that cannot be ignored. Wearing so many hats at the university and bringing lots of success is a reason he is one of the top Tennessee Vols Athletics coaches during the adidas era.

J.J. Clark

Women's Track and Field/Cross Country, 2002-2014

We are sticking with Track and Field but now going over to the women’s side of things. And just like Bill Webb, J.J. Clark was too successful over a long period of time to be left off of this list, even if he was coaching a sport that is much more about talent than coaching.

Clark led the women’s track and field program to two indoor national championships in 2005 and 2009 and three SEC indoor championships in 2005, 2007, and 2009. As the leader of the cross-country program too, Clark was a 21-time coach of the year across the different sports, which is remarkable.
