2. Who has taken on leadership roles?

Since coming to Tennessee, Butch Jones has been the face of the program, engaging with the fan base, other areas of the school, and showing the most emotion.

All that is fine and dandy, but if you remember, during the last two SEC Championships the Vols had, in 1997 and 1998, Phil Fulmer almost had a back seat. Peyton Manning and then Al Wilson were the leaders of those teams.

And that tends to be what you need if you want a successful season.

Leadership starts with players stepping up and taking charge, and we need to find out who those leaders are. With two juniors representing the team at SEC Media Days, younger leaders may not be such a bad thing with such a young team. And as the old man of the group, senior Curt Maggitt appears to be stepping into that role well also.

Seeing it from Josh Dobbs, who is a great ambassador for the university anyway, would be a huge plus. You always want your quarterback to step up like that, and as a junior who is appearing to be the starter for the next two years, he seems like the guy.

But that’s something we want to find out more about because it goes directly to our next question.
