3. Quinten Dormady Will be the Backup Quarterback

Butch Jones said this in kind of a throwaway line in an interview with media members at the event Tuesday. But it is a huge deal going forward.

We knew that Quinten Dormady had a great spring and really elevated his stock, and it was assumed that he would be Josh Dobbs’s backup, but nothing was confirmed.

Jones mentioned it in an interview though to pretty much make it clear. The reason this is significant is because there is still the question of a pro-style quarterback thriving in Jones’s system given how Justin Worley struggled, but at the same time, by the point Dormady takes over, the offensive line should be a heck of a lot better than it was for Worley.

And with playmakers all over the field for him, he should be able to just fling the football from the pocket if he was that impressive in the spring.

Hopefully, he will not be needed much this year, but it is very nice to have a clear starting quarterback and backup quarterback going into the season. In college football, that always answers one major question about your team.

So look out for Dormady to see some action in games this year as a freshman quarterback on campus. Perhaps he will get better because of who he is backing up, which brings us to our next point.
