9. Making the College Football Playoff
In another year, this might be the only way to determine if the Tennessee Vols have a successful football season. But the program is still not at that point yet, so achieving this would simply be icing on the cake and a major step ahead of where we thought this team would be at this particular moment in time.

The exciting thing, though, is that this is truly possible. Well, staying in the race is possible. If you think about it, the Vols could start the year 6-0 with Florida as their only true road game, and even losing on the road to Alabama would not stop their chances at making the playoff.
So why not shoot big, right? I mean, we keep talking about these expectations, and being a Top 25 team in both preseason polls has to mean something, so Vols fans have every right to think about this down the line. And if many other things go the way they need to go for this to be a successful year, they will likely remain in the race at some point.
But while making the playoff should always be on the list as a barometer of success if you are the University of Tennessee, this year, it kind of belongs toward the bottom.
That is not to say that it does not belong on the list, though. You think Alabama doesn’t have this near the top of its list?
It’s just to say that we need to wait a year before moving this up the list.
