Maggitt last year, coming off of an injury, managed 11 sackes, 15 tackles for a loss, and a forced fumble. Imagine what he will be able to do this year fully healthy!

Getting back to his position, this is why we get back to the Derek Barnett scenario. Both players are so legit that opposing teams can’t run to one side, and that benefits Maggitt as much as Barnett. He’ll have his chances to wreak havoc.

And the 6’4″ 252 pound linebacker should have no problem doing just that.

Add in his versatility with his skills on the line and at linebacker, and there is no telling to just how great he could be and how much of a name for himself he could make.

Let’s shoot higher for him and say that the Chuck Bednarick Award is a legitimate possibility here because of everything this fifth-year senior can do.

But if Maggitt is the best defensive chance and Dobbs is the best offensive chance for postseason awards, who on Earth gets the top spot?

Curt Maggitt

Linebacker/Edge Rusher, Senior

While Dobbs obviously will have the most opportunities to state his case for postseason awards on offense, Curt Maggitt will have the most opportunities on defense by far.

As an elite linebacker, he can line up there if the Vols do a 4-3 set or as an edge rusher in their 4-2-5 set. Either way you slice it, he can be deadly effective, and that is why he is No. 2 on this list for Tennessee Vols football players who could win postseason awards.
