7. Georgia Bulldogs

If Tennessee is to truly contend for the SEC East this year and is truly as great as many people are expecting them to be, then I will probably regret putting the Georgia Bulldogs this low on my list. After all, it is pretty clear that they will be the main competition for the Vols in the East.

  • However, this year, the focus is still on getting back on solid ground for Tennessee football, and that means there are lots of other difficult but very winnable games they should worry about. As such, while Georgia is a probable loss and not a circled one, the season is not over if Tennessee loses this game.

A 10-2 season with losses to Georgia and Alabama would be perfectly fine for most Vol fans and would certainly signal a return to prominence. However, Georgia is not a circled game, making it a more important focus, and it is also a game that could have divisional, conference, and yes, national implications.

Considering that, it is still a very important game and much more important than any of the circled games this year. But winning this game, like the Alabama game, would also be a bit of icing on the cake.

So with lots to gain from a win but not much to lose from a loss in terms of what makes this season a success, the Georgia Bulldogs fit right in at No. 7 on our list of important games on Tennessee’s schedule this year. Now come the more difficult games with a bit more to lose from a loss.
