Butch Jones Presser: Vols to debut Smokey Gray Against Georgia
By Seth Norris
Coach Butch Jones met with the media for his regularly scheduled presser on Monday.
The atmosphere was pretty dull which, coming off of another close loss, is to be expected. It was a lot of similar answers as usual, and coach speak, but there were a few interesting notes coming out of the press conference.
Coach Jones Announces Smokey Gray’s
In very recent history, it does not fair well for the Vols when they do something out of the ordinary, like wearing smokey gray uniforms.
“It will be a smokey gray game,” said Jones, “Which does not help you win a football game, but I know everyone’s been looking forward to that.”
The Vols are currently 0-2 in smokey gray uniforms. Jones made sure to point out that this does not give them a competitive edge, and some fans think this announcement has guaranteed a loss. If you believe that things like uniforms and checkering Neyland actually effect the outcome of the game, then you are not happy.
Fans took to Twitter to react to the announcement, some superstitious, some just ready to win without “gimmicks.”
Other Notes
- Freshman defensive end Kyle Phillips will be out this week.
- Guard Dylan Weisman does not have a high ankle sprain and will be available for practice.
- Pig Howard missed last week’s game because he could not pass a concussion test after sustaining one against Western Carolina, and will have to pass that before he is cleared.
- Marquez North was a game time decision last week, and should be cleared for the Georgia game.
- Jones call rumors of a physical altercation with a player “absolutely ridiculous.”
The Vols are preparing this week to face the 4-1 Georgia Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. on CBS.
