Butch Jones Submitted Clip Of Shy Tuttle Injury To SEC Office
By Zach Ragan
As you’re probably well aware, true freshman defensive tackle Shy Tuttle will miss the rest of the 2015 season after breaking his fibula on a very questionable block in the Vols’ win against Georgia last Saturday.
You can see the block in the clip below. It’s obvious the Georgia player intentionally went low on Tuttle. While I’m sure he didn’t intend to injure Tuttle, there’s a reason that block is illegal — because it often results in injury.
Jones said on Wednesday evening that Tennessee has sent a clip of the hit to the SEC office, but he wouldn’t comment on any response.
In this instance, a response is really irrelevant. The damage has been done. A promising player for the Volunteers, one that was starting to play a bigger role on the team, is lost for the season due to a dirty hit.
But it’s still important that Jones made the office aware of his displeasure. It won’t change anything that happened, but perhaps the league will get serious about enforcing illegal chop blocks.
Unfortunately for Tennessee, they’ll have to play the rest of the season without a player that was stepping up in a big way in recent weeks.
