Vols quarterback Joshua Dobbs fumbled a snap but picked up the ball and ran into the end zone against the Northwestern Wildcats in the Outback Bowl.

Joshua Dobbs’s legacy at Tennessee continues to grow with numerous great plays.

This one was with the Vols up 24-6. On the heels of a series of great runs by Jalen Hurd, Dobbs fumbled a third down snap.

But then he picked it up, ran to the right down the sideline, and got into the end zone for a touchdown, managing to remarkably stay in bounds the whole time.

All year long, Butch Jones and Mike DeBord looked better when they let him play and turned him loose.

Dobbs may struggle with downfield accuracy and awareness, but he is one of the best improvisation quarterbacks in all of college football.

The only exception to this rule was against the Arkansas Razorbacks, when he simply had a bad game, and during a two-game stretch against the South Carolina Gamecocks and the North Texas Mean Green in which he was hurt for periods of time.

But outside of that, when Dobbs was turned loose, he was deadly. The coaching staff would do well to remember that going into his senior season.
