Tennessee announced on Wednesday that defensive coordinator John Jancek would not be returning to lead the Volunteers’ defense in 2016.
The move was described in a statement by Butch Jones as a mutual parting of ways.

Jancek’s departure comes as a bit of a surprise. Tennessee’s defense was greatly improved during his three years on Rocky Top.
The Vols went from 84th in total defense in 2013 to 36th this past season.
It’s interesting to note some of Jancek’s retweets on Wednesday evening, specifically this one.

And this one.
That's twice in 12 months Butch jettisoned a coordinator who helped him get this job - a few weeks before NSD. https://t.co/iPPE1yxfsD

Jancek did take the time to thank the fans though.
I just want to say thank you to #GBO I loved your passion and I never wanted to let you guys down!! I enjoyed improving the defense! #VFL

And he also praised the players.
Tennessee has a great #Orange Swarm defense coming back next season!! #VolNation dominate! The players are awesome!!

There definitely seems to be more to this staff change than meets the eye.
Tennessee better hope they make a hell of a hire, because this is undoubtedly a risky move by Jones and the program.
