The five-star defensive tackle out of Georgia appears to be leaning heavily toward the Dawgs at this moment with only the Auburn Tigers making any kind of push. But once again, we don’t know what kind of impact Bob Shoop will have as an addition to the Tennessee football defense in terms of recruiting.

Brown, like Chris Daniels, is also being recruited by Steve Stripling, but Robert Gillespie is also helping out, as Tennessee and Alabama are recruiting him the hardest. Could Georgia lose ground? With all the changes, it’s possible.

The one thing working against Tennessee is the fact that it is already so deep on the defensive line that Brown would have to wait or compete hard for playing time. However, he could become part of an NFL revolving door the way Alabama is under Saban.

At 6’4″, Brown is already 317 pounds. Unfortunately, he does not carry the same speed as Daniels, and the changes in college football could be a bit much for him early. But he is amazing at whipping blocks and knows how to stay patient in making tackles.

Those are huge assets for a defensive lineman.

And the best part for Tennessee? Knoxville is going to be his final visit on Jan. 29, the weekend before Signing Day. If they can keep his commitment open for the next week, Butch Jones has a great chance of making a strong final push.

Derrick Brown

Defensive Tackle,

You can never have enough depth in the trenches, and Derrick Brown is another defensive tackle the Vols have a great chance of stealing if things go right over the next couple of weeks.
