Holly Warlick’s Tennessee Lady Vols secured a No. 7 seed in the women’s basketball SEC Tournament. They will face the Arkansas Razorbacks Thursday.

After an abysmal up and down season that does not come close to meeting the standards of the program’s tradition, the Tennessee Lady Vols secured a No. 7 seed in the SEC Tournament under Holly Warlick by beating the Georgia Bulldogs 80-60 on Sunday.

The win allows them to finish the season with a 17-12 record but only an 8-8 SEC record.

Still, they were able to get a seed in the top half of the tournament and will face the Arkansas Razorbacks on Thursday at 6 p.m.

The game is a chance for the Lady Vols to get revenge after an embarrassing loss to the same team back in the middle of January, one of many that Warlick received justified and significant criticism for.

If the Lady Vols win, they will face the Texas A&M Aggies on Friday evening at 6 p.m. That will be another chance for them to avenge a tough loss, as they loss to the Aggies 76-71 on the road earlier this year.

However, if they can do that, then they would face either Mississippi State, Georgia, Vanderbilt, or Ole Miss. The only team among those four to beat them were the Mississippi State Bulldogs, and it was a 65-63 victory in Starkville.

Simply put, the Lady Vols may be a No. 7 seed, but they have a great chance to make it to the championship game of the SEC Tournament. At the same time, they could stumble and lose in the first round considering how bad of a job Holly Warlick has done with this team this year.

Fortunately, despite their mediocre record, Tennessee is likely a lock to make the NCAA Tournament because of their No. 1 strength of schedule in the RPI.

How far they can go in the tournament, though, is an entirely different discussion.
