Tennessee football linebacker Jalen Reeves Maybin suffered a shoulder injury and will miss the rest of the Vols’ spring. He is the leader of the Volunteers.

It happens like clockwork. Every year, every excited fan base loses enthusiasm after the first major player on their team is hurt. The Tennessee Vols have now suffered their own bombshell.

Jalen Reeves-Maybin, the all-everything at linebacker who decided to stay for his senior season and will be the unquestioned leader of the Vols now has a shoulder injury and will miss the rest of Spring Practice, according to a 247 Sports report from Wes Rucker.

Fortunately, he appears to only be lost for the spring and will be back for the Fall. Rucker even said in his article that having him healthy for the season is a “priority,” so this could be much more of a safety measure taken than anything else.

If there is one player the Vols do not want to lose, it is Reeves-Maybin. However, for the spring, as Rucker noted, there is one bright side: Tennessee can develop some depth at the position. Here is what Rucker said in his article.

"A group of players including junior-to-be Cortez McDowell, sophomore-to-be Dillon Bates, redshirt-freshman-to-be Quart’e Sapp, and junior-to-be Elliott Berry will get more reps this spring as a result of Reeves-Maybin’s injury."

This is what Reeves-Maybin Tweeted on Tuesday.

Even a small injury to this superstar senior has to raise the eyebrows of everybody in Vol Nation. But this appears to be nothing to panic about. If it is, Butch Jones and Bob Shoop have got some serious work to do, and they have got to do it fast.

Fortunately, the Vols have more depth than they have ever had since Jones arrived, as he has done an amazing job addressing that issue. But Reeves-Maybin has become one of those irreplaceable players.
