Tennessee Softball: Vols to Visit the Lipscomb Bisons Tuesday Night

Tennessee softball travels to Nashville Tuesday for a midweek match-up against Lipscomb. The Volunteers will face the Lady Bisons at 6 p.m. E.T.

The No. 17 ranked Tennessee softball team is not letting up in its quest to get back to the Women’s College World Series, evidenced by a sweep over the No. 25 ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Now, at 25-8 and before they follow that up with an encore on the road against the No. 16 ranked Missouri Tigers in continuing SEC Play this weekend, they get a one-game breather in Nashville against the Lipscomb Bisons.

Lipscomb enters the game with an 18-15 record after taking two out of three against Jacksonville over the weekend, and the program will be looking for its first win ever against the Vols in nine tries.

Outside of freshman catcher Sarah Higgins, Lipscomb is built on heavy pitching. That could make for an interesting match-up against a Tennessee softball team that makes a habit of scoring six runs or more in a game, which is what they did in all four games they played last week.

The four-game winning streak follows an unfortunate series they suffered on the road against the No. 1 Florida Gators, in which they were swept, two weekends ago.

The first pitch of the game is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium, and the game can be viewed on ESPN3/WatchESPN. It is also available on the radio via WNML AM 990.

With 21 regular season games left and then the SEC Tournament, Tennessee appears to be back on a roll at this point and gets the perfect breather Tuesday before another brutal SEC series beginning on Friday. But they have got to remain focused down the stretch.

The Vols also have to score more wins against quality opponents, something they had trouble doing until their sweep of Mississippi State over the weekend. That might be just the confidence they need going into this weekend.
