Tennessee Baseball: Vols to Face UNC Asheville in Second Night of Midweek Back-to-Back
After pummeling MTSU Tuesday, Tennessee baseball has to get set for a new team Wednesday. The Volunteers will face the UNC Asheville Bulldogs.
Heading into the second game of a midweek back-to-back, Dave Serrano’s Tennessee baseball team is 15-9 and has a chance to improve to 16-9 before the heart of SEC play begins once again.

The Vols were powered by a five-inning shutout pitched by Eric Freeman Tuesday along with two home runs and six RBI’s from Nick Senzel to beat the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders 9-2.
The win was a solid one against a very underrated team that does not back down from competition.
But if they could handle Middle Tennessee, the Vols should dominate UNC Asheville.
The Bulldogs are 5-18 in their first season under new head coach Scott Friedholm, and they are coming off being swept by Liberty University in three games over the weekend.
With only five starters back from last year’s 21-34 team along with a new head coach, it’s no secret this ball club is struggling this year. So a win would really mean nothing for the scope of the Tennessee baseball program…except the fact that they can continue to pad their record before the NCAA Tournament.
Also, improving upon a mediocre 6-4 home record can’t hurt either.
This is the last breather for the Vols before they have to get set to host the Kentucky Wildcats for a three-game home series this weekend, one that will be huge as an SEC series and a series between two teams trying to get to the NCAA Tournament.

Undoubtedly Tennessee could be looking ahead to this weekend with that series coming up, but they have got to get past a very bad UNC Asheville team first. A loss on Wednesday night would be devastating no matter how you look at it.
