Good morning Vol Nation. The weekend is almost here. Tennessee is in the heart of baseball and softball seasons, and while softball looks to be in good shape, the Vols have got a lot of work to do if they finally want to reach the NCAA Tournament…and save Dave Serrano’s job. That starts with a series beginning today against the Auburn Tigers.

Basketball completed another signing period on Wednesday as well, and the men and the women each welcomed a new member to the Vol family. Also, more drama continues from the Butch Jones-Knoxville Police Department connection during the sexual assault issue facing the school.

Here is what you need to know for today, starting with the Jones-KPD drama.

Police may have violated state law in handling 2014 UT sex assault cases – Nate Rau and Anita Wadhwani of The Tennessean

"Contrary to police best practices, potentially threatening the integrity of the investigation and in possible violation of state law, Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch and a detective made “professional courtesy” calls to Tennessee head football coach Butch Jones about the investigation — a practice Rausch says is common when police investigate alleged crimes involving an athlete at Tennessee."

"Nixon said Tennessee has been at the top of his list for roughly “three months,” and he was planning to visit the Vols last week before he was forced to call off the trip. And while he’s also giving Oklahoma State, Colorado and Baylor strong consideration, he said he’s eager to see what Tennessee has to offer."

Lady Vols sign 3-Star post player Kamera HarrisDan Fleser of GoVols

"Harris, who is rated a three-star prospect by ESPN, became Tennessee’s first women’s basketball signee for the 2016-17 season. She will visit campus this weekend and eventually return for summer school. Harris said that she attended a summer camp at Tennessee after her sophomore season and considered UT to be a “dream school.” Circumstances and her support group helped to make it a reality."
