Tennessee baseball hopes to build off its series victory against the No. 4 Vanderbilt Commodores. The Volunteers face the Eastern Kentucky Colonels Tuesday.

Just when it seemed like Dave Serrano’s team was down and out, Tennessee baseball shocked the world by taking two out of three against the No. 4 ranked Vanderbilt Commodores over the weekend, which has clearly been the highlight of the season so far.

Now, the Vols look to continue the momentum with back-to-back midweek games on Tuesday and Wednesday against lower-level teams at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

But with a 23-17 overall record, they have a heck of a lot of work to do to beef up their resume, especially considering their 6-12 record in the SEC.

Tennessee begins this midweek back to back against an Eastern Kentucky baseball team that is 17-24 and should be an easy win, but they have to focus. The Vols will play a much tougher Alabama State team on Wednesday and could be looking ahead, and they could also be looking ahead to a tough road series against the Missouri Tigers this weekend.

Eastern Kentucky is struggling right now with head coach Edwin Thompson in his first year trying to change the program, but they did stun the No. 13 ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs back in March. If they can do that, there is no reason to believe they can’t beat Tennessee on Tuesday.

So the Vols have to take the Colonels seriously.

Tennessee puts Eric Freeman on the mound Tuesday, and Eastern Kentucky will have Caleb Johnson pitching. The Vols own a 24-4 record against the Colonels.

The first pitch is set to be thrown out at 6 p.m.
