After splitting the Tennessee Softball Classic over the weekend and ending their home winning streak, the Volunteers will face Tennessee Tech Wednesday.

Ralph and Karen Weekly will be looking for their team to extend their new home winning streak to two games after it was snapped in the Tennessee Classic on Saturday. The Vols will also be looking to extend their 87-game softball winning streak against in-state opponents as they face the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles.

Ranked No. 13 in the country with a 35-12 record, Tennessee gets a break from major conference play in facing the Golden Eagles. After losing to the No. 9 ranked Oklahoma Sooners Saturday, they need to get their confidence back up and refocused, which began with a 10-2 win over Lipscomb following that loss to the Sooners.

The Vols are facing a Tennessee Tech team that is 19-28 overall but is on a bit of a roll. The Golden Eagles beat Murray State twice last weekend and split a series with Austin Peay, helping their standing in the Ohio Valley Conference.

They are clearly not on Tennessee’s level and have never beaten the Vols in 19 tries, but Tennessee has to remain focused before it gets back into SEC Play this weekend with a huge three-game home stand against the No. 3 ranked Auburn Tigers. That series will be put on national television and is the last home series of the year for the Vols, so it might be prudent to call it the most important regular season series of the year.

They have no midweek games next week and will close out the season at the Ole Miss Rebels for a three-game series. But before they can do that, getting past Tennessee Tech has to be a major focus.
