Tennessee Baseball: Vols Lose to Missouri Tigers 6-5
Tennessee baseball lost its second game in its series against the Missouri Tigers. The Volunteers fell by one run again, 6-5.
For the second straight game, the Tennessee Vols suffered a late loss to the Missouri Tigers by one run. In this one, Dave Serrano’s team scored four runs in the seventh inning to take a 4-3 lead and led 5-4 going into the bottom of the eighth.
But the Tigers then scored two runs to win the game 6-5.
With the loss, Tennessee has lost the series to Missouri. The Vols have now lost three straight games, dating back to a midweek loss to the Alabama State Hornets, and that came after taking two out of three against the No. 4 ranked Vanderbilt Commodores last weekend.
But against the worst team in the SEC, Tennessee has now dropped two straight on the road and fell to 24-20 and 6-14 in the conference. They have now dropped below the Tigers in the SEC standings.
Once again, the Vols too often failed to send runners home after they got on base, and once again, their relief pitchers failed the team, allowing three runs late in the game.
The same thing happened Friday night after they blew a 4-3 lead by allowing two runs in the bottom of the eighth.
Two straight nights, they blew a one-run lead by allowing two runs in the eighth, and their hitters could not drive other baserunners home.
It has become the story of the season, and with it, Tennessee is in serious trouble now.
