The embarrassment of Tennessee baseball continues as the Volunteers were swept by the Missouri Tigers over the weekend.

The apathy surrounding Tennessee baseball appears to have reached the players and coaches. A day after they pretty much knew their season was done by losing to the Missouri Tigers, they decided to go for the icing on the cake. And they lost on Sunday 8-3 to be swept.

While it was the relief pitchers who blew it for the Vols in the first two games, but this time it was the starter who decided to blow the game. Freshman Will Neely allowed six runs in five innings in this game, and the Vols continued to struggle to bring players home.

With the loss, Tennessee fell to 24-21 overall and 6-15 in the SEC. Meanwhile, Missouri moved to 24-21 and 7-14 in the SEC. Also, the Vols dropped firmly below the Tigers for the worst team in the SEC.

Dave Serrano was already in serious hot water, and this series might have done in his career. Losing to the worst team in the SEC for three straight games a week after taking two out of three from the No. 4 ranked Vanderbilt Commodores highlights the inconsistency of the program in his era.

And with only 11 games left, nine of which are SEC games, the best the Vols can finish is 15-15 in the conference and 35-21 overall.

To do that they would have to sweep the No. 1 ranked Florida Gators, the No. 11 ranked LSU Tigers, and the Georgia Bulldogs on the road. They would also have to beat Belmont and East Tennessee State University in two midweek home games, which they showed can be tougher than they should be after losing to the Alabama State Hornets last week.

Simply put, the Vols are pretty much done unless a miracle happens.
