Former Tennessee Vols star Al Wilson speaking on the state of the football program headlines the news on Rocky Top for Monday, May 2.


It’s gonna be May! Well, Sunday was the first day of May. But happy first weekday of the year in May! Spring is here, baseball is in full form, and the NFL Draft is over.

Of course, some of that related news may not always be good news for Tennessee athletics, but it is still a fun time of year. And there is some good news on Rocky Top.

The Tennessee Vols may have been shut out of the NFL Draft, but they have a few players getting noticed. And while the Vols on the diamond have turned into an embarrassment, the softball Vols are doing the exact opposite.

But we begin the news for Monday, May 2 with an Al Wilson sighting, and his comments on the Tennessee football program.

Former Vol Al Wilson compares 2016 Vols to 1998 – Matt Barbato of SEC Country

"“The junior class this year, when they were freshmen, we all said that when they become juniors, it should be a pretty good season for us,” former Tennessee linebacker Al Wilson said, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel’s Grant Ramey. “Now is the time.”"

"The Vols may not have had any players drafted in the 2016 NFL Draft, but there have been a handful of former Vols to already find homes as undrafted free agents or have been invited in for rookie minicamp tryouts."

Tennessee baseball swept by Missouri Tigers over the weekend – Dustin Dopirak of Knoxblogs.com

"Missouri defeated Tennessee 8-3 in Columbia, Mo. on Sunday to sweep the series and send the Vols into last place in the SEC. The Vols fell to 24-21, 6-15 in the SEC. The Tigers, who had been in last place in the conference coming into the series, improved to 24-21, 7-14."

Tennessee softball wins both games of doubleheader vs No. 3 Auburn – WBIR
