Tennessee Vols defensive coordinator Bob Shoop talking trash and Peyton Manning’s future in the broadcast booth headline Rocky Top news for Wednesday May 3.


Happy Hump Day to everybody. It’s the first Wednesday in May, and these presidential primaries are still going on! When will it stop?

Well, for all of us sick of politics at this point, lots of stuff is going on in the college sports world, and that includes Tennessee Volunteers athletics. Recruiting is in full gear for Tennessee football, and while baseball is struggling, softball in Knoxville is riding a wave of momentum.

We also have a lot of talking going on from players and coaches in Knoxville right now about this upcoming season, and there’s also a bit of Peyton Manning news.

But let’s start Wednesday with Bob Shoop’s decision to talk a big game.

Tennessee DC Bob Shoop says nobody will be able to run on the Vols – Jeff Caplan of SEC Country

"Shoop, who joined coach Butch Jones’ staff in January, had this to say about his unit Monday night, via Jimmy Hyams, host on Knoxville, Tenn., sports radio station WNML: “We’re very committed. We’re going to stop the run. Nobody will run the football on the Orange Swarm. Nobody will run the football on Tennessee.”"

Former Vol Peyton Manning not interested in broadcasting career – Michael David Smith of NBCSports

"Despite reports that Peyton Manning would go from the field to the broadcast booth, he has reportedly said “no thanks” to offers to work in television.The New York Daily News reports that Manning’s representatives have told the NFL’s TV partnersthat he will not take a broadcasting job this season."

Jonathan Kongbo eager to play Alabama – Ryan Callahan of 247Sports
