Top 10 All Time Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball Teams
Women’s basketball in Knoxville has a long, storied tradition with the Volunteers. Here are the Top 10 all time Tennessee Lady Vols teams.
In 35 years of competing at the NCAA level, the Tennessee Lady Vols have come away with eight national championships, 13 national title game appearances, 18 NCAA Final Four appearances, 16 SEC regular season championships, and 16 SEC Tournament championships.
True, most of that came with Pat Summitt at the helm, but Holly Warlick did do her part in bringing home a regular season SEC Title along with an SEC Tournament Title in different years.
So with all of those accomplishments, how do you determine the best teams in Tennessee Lady Vols history? Sure, it’s easy to put the eight national title teams in the Top 8, but there are two other teams who belong there, and the other eight have to be arranged somehow.
With this post we have determined exactly how to rank them. The methods include how far they advanced in the tournament if they didn’t win a national title, what other championships or accomplishments they had during the regular season and SEC Tournament, their overall record, and the amount of success their players saw at the next level, either in the Olympics or the WNBA.
We threw in the Olympics because some of the teams that have to be on here existed before the WNBA was even a thing.
Doing all of that paints a clearer picture of how to rank the teams, and everybody who knows Tennessee basketball knows that it’s pretty obvious who the worst ranked national champion and the top ranked national champion would be.
That makes No. 1 and No. 8 easy. Now it’s time to rearrange the rest of them, including the six other national title winners, picking two that didn’t win the title, and then arranging them as well.
Here are the 10 greatest Tennessee Lady Vols teams of all time.
