10. 1998-1999 Tennessee Lady Vols (31-3, SEC Regular Season Championship, SEC Tournament Championship, Elite Eight)

This last spot was in competition with the 1999-2000 and the 1994-1995 Lady Vols teams. Both of those teams made the national title game, but they did not outright win the SEC regular season and tournament titles.

This team did. On top of that, the 1999-2000 team was never good enough to win the title, losing to the UConn Huskies 71-52 in the national championship.

But these Lady Vols just choked.

Fresh off of having the greatest season in women’s basketball history, Chamique Holdsclaw and Tamika Catchings were back to be the leaders of the team and should have led them to another title. And throughout the season, they appeared to be doing their job en route to a 28-2 record and SEC Regular Season and Tournament title.

The season earned the Lady Vols another No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament, and they appeared poised for a fourth straight national title.

Then, out of nowhere in the Elite Eight, the No. 3 seed Duke Blue Devils came and shocked them. Although they only made the Elite Eight, Duke eventually won the national title. That one game is what kept this team from being maybe the second greatest Lady Vols team in history.

But they still belong on this list.
