The celebration of Pat Summitt, more Vols up for awards, and Tennessee football’s SEC expectations headline the news on Rocky Top for Friday, July 15.


Happy Friday to everybody reading this. Before we get started, let’s acknowledge another awful tragedy with the killings that took place in France on Thursday evening. Obviously, for those families this is not a happy Friday, and we want to think about them as much as possible in these tragic times.

Tennessee was coping with its own tragedy Thursday night by finding a way to turn it into a positive.

There is also some lighter news dealing with football expectations following SEC Media Days for the upcoming 2016 season.

But let’s start with the tragedy…and the triumphs of the late Pat Summitt.

"Pat Summitt filled Thompson-Boling Arena 376 times in her storied career as the head coach of the Lady Volunteers. Thursday night, the Tennessee family came together to fill the arena and sing “Rocky Top” one last time in honor of the legend who passed away on June 28, 2016.A list of those that she impacted as much more than just a coach told stories and shared memories of Summitt with many of her familiar lines that ring true in the lives of everyone she touched."

"Dobbs threw for 2,291 yards and 15 touchdowns against just five interceptions last season and rushed for 671 yards and 11 touchdowns, leading the Vols to a 9-4 record and an Outback Bowl victory over Northwestern."

Alabama received 246 first-place votes in the West, while LSU collected 76. Ole Miss was third with 1,479 points and five votes to capture the division title."
