Former Tennessee Football quarterback Peyton Manning gave a very emotional speech in remembering the late Lady Vols coach Pat Summitt.
Over the past few year, we’ve seen Peyton Manning get emotional at different times. He was emotional when it was announced he would leave the Colts, and he was emotional in his retirement speech.
But his emotions Thursday night were felt by everybody in the nation who watched it.
As Manning went up to talk about the late Pat Summitt at Thompson-Boling Arena Thursday night, it would’ve been impossible for any Vols fan to not get teary eyed.
Here’s the full video.
Manning discussed his close friendship with Summitt, the brutality of the disease that took her life, and stories that, quite honestly, we may not have wanted to hear.
The idea of Summitt not being able to recognize some Vol legends, including some of her own players such as Chamique Holdsclaw, was too much to accept.
Summitt was always the one who was in control, always the one who looked out for the players. To hear the story of her in the state she was in had to be tough for any Vols fan.
But at the same time, it was heartwarming to know just how close contact so many people kept with her until the end.
This speech captured every emotion you could capture when it comes to Summitt.
And it came from a guy who never even played for her.
But you didn’t have to play for her to know everything about what she stood for and what she represented…what she still represents.
