Tennessee football players approaching school records and another Volunteers recruiting splash headline the news on Rocky Top for Thursday, July 21.


The weekend is almost here. The Republican convention is almost over. And the start of college football season is getting closer and closer by the minute! How can anybody in the world not be excited about that?

Anyway, happy Thursday to everybody. Today’s rendition of Tennessee news focuses on another football commitment, the chance for some Vols to break school records, and a former basketball Vol making some headlines.

Once again, Tennessee sports is filled with good news for today. It’s been a good week for the Vols up to this point.

Florida athlete C.J. Cotman commits to Tennessee – Ryan Callahan of 247Sports

"The 5-foot-10.5, 173-pound Cotman chose the Vols over scholarship offers from more than 30 other teams, including Notre Dame, North Carolina, Ohio State and Ole Miss, giving Tennessee its 21st commitment for the 2017 class and its third in the past two days."

Former Vol Kevin Punter signs with European team – WBIR

"Kevin Punter will sign with Lavrio in Greece, the former Tennessee All-SEC guard said Wednesday afternoon.A 6-foot-2 native of Bronx, N.Y., Punter made the most of his two seasons at Tennessee after arriving from State Fair Community College in Missouri. After playing in 32 games with 31 starts at the shooting guard spot and averaging 10.3 points per game as a junior, Punter embraced a new position (point guard) and a new shooting stroke under a new coach (Rick Barnes) and became a star as a senior."
