Butch Jones ended a historically great recruiting class with a bang Saturday. In a week with already three four-star commitments and one three-star commitment, the Tennessee Vols picked up a quarterback at the end of the week, fulfilling the promise of the staff to get at least one player there.

Dual-threat quarterback C.J. Lewis, who is a three-star on Rivals, announced his commitment to the Vols over Buffalo and Boston College just two days after receiving an offer from them, according to 247Sports.

At 6’3″ 197 out of Cheshire, Conn., Lewis is the exact type of quarterback Jones and his coaching staff continue to go for. He may not be the four-star the Sheriron Jones and Jarrett Guarantano are, and he may not have fielded any offers from any other program that finished last year in the Top 25, but Jones’s track record shows that he can be trusted when it comes to quarterbacks.

Now, after Joshua Dobbs graduates, the Vols will be able to enter 2017 with four quarterbacks on the roster, Jones, Guarantano, Quinten Dormady, and Lewis, and all will have a legitimate chance to compete for the starting job.

The Vols are already ranked No. 6 on Rivals for the 2017 recruiting rankings, and with another quarterback, the most important part of this class is that Jones has filled the exact needs of the roster to with his recruiting.

Now, the rest of the time can be spent just trying to get the elite guys. Lewis’s commitment was huge in allowing that.

Tennessee football recruiting is in a great situation.
