The start of Fall camp and news surrounding a couple of Tennessee football legends headline the Vols news on Rocky Top for Wednesday, July 27.


Happy Hump Day everybody!!! It’s the final Hump Day of July, and we are about to get set for the Dog Days of August. For many, that’s a time of excessive heat with nothing to do. For kids, it’s a time to get ready for school.

And for football fans, it’s the impatient wait for the start of the season.

Needless to say, August is a month where everybody gets a little restless in some way. But all we can do is continue to keep you informed, excited, and interested, so here we go again.

The news for today sticks with Tennessee football. Rocky Top is buzzing about a couple of former Vols who made headlines and the start of Fall Camp. There are preseason updates to give as well.

But let’s start with the former Vols.

Johnny Majors to teach coaching course – Carolyn Krause of Oak Ridge Today

"Heath Shuler wouldn’t be surprised to see his alma mater play in the SEC Championship game in December. The former Tennessee quarterback and Heisman Trophy runner-up still rues the fact that he didn’t get to play in either of the first two."

Vols release preseason camp schedule – Ryan Callahan of 247Sports

"Tennessee will hold its first preseason practice Monday at 6:10 p.m. Eastern time, school officials announced Tuesday afternoon.The Vols released their schedule for preseason camp Tuesday, revealing the dates of their planned practices through Friday, Aug. 19. Tennessee coach Butch Jones will hold his pre-camp press conference Monday at 11:30 a.m. Eastern time."

Butch Jones says Shy Tuttle ‘touch and go’ during camp – Dustin Dopirak of 247Sports

"Shy Tuttle has been cleared to run and Tennessee remains hopeful he will play in the season opener, but the sophomore defensive tackle will still be limited in training camp, Tennessee coach Butch Jones said at a meeting of the Rotary Clubs of Knoxville on Tuesday at the Crowne Plaza.Tuttle suffered a broken fibula and torn ankle ligament in the Vols’ win over Georgia last October and has been out since."
