Tennessee Football: Butch Jones Has Vols Entering Preseason Very Tight-Lipped

Tennessee football is entering preseason with lots of hype, but the Volunteers are all very tight-lipped as they get set for the start of Fall Camp.

It started back at SEC Media Days. The Tennessee Vols and Butch Jones pulled the typical move of speaking a lot while saying nothing. That is exactly how they are entering preseason going into the 2016 season.

It’s no secret that there is a lot of hype surrounding the Vols going into this year. After losing four games by a combined 25 points, all of which were within one possession last year, and returning almost everybody this year, the SEC East is the expectation for Jones and Co.

Of course, as noted in a GoVols Online article, Jones has always been the king of catchphrases through his first three years with the Vols.

That still holds true this year, but for Team 120, it’s now more about remaining tight-lipped and trying to keep a level head going into the season.

Jones has said he endorses his players having the freedom to take public stances on things on social media as long as they are careful, but he cautioned guys like Jonathan Kongbo from doing lots of talking about this season.

And that should give you an idea of what he is looking to do this year. Jones is very outgoing and talkative, and he is still the cliche coach, but this year he is focused heavily on staying quiet ahead of the season.

If there is any indication that he and the coaches have high expectations for this year and are all in for 2016, that should be it.
