Tennessee Football: Vols Pick Up Walk-On Punter

Tennessee football picked up a commitment from a walk-on punter Saturday. The punter flipped to the Volunteers from the Virginia Tech Hokies.

Butch Jones and the Tennessee Vols got another member of their 2016 class added on Saturday when walk-on punter Brandon Nickle out of Oak Ridge, Tenn. committed to the Vols.

Nickle flipped his commitment from the Virginia Tech Hokies, where he initially committed to back in April. He announced his commitment on Twitter.

After Trevor Daniel last year, Vols fans have learned to put their faith in walk-ons at the punting position. Nickle’s commitment also gives the Vols some much-needed depth at the punter position.

He will likely take a redshirt this year, and then he’ll be a freshman during Daniel’s senior year so he has a chance to compete for a starting job going into his sophomore year.
