Tennessee football analysis, Vols in the Olympics, and Cameron Sutton headline the Volunteers news on Rocky Top for Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2016.

To many Americans, this is a very happy Tuesday as the United States has taken control in the early stages of the 2016 Summer Olympics. Whether or not they can continue that is up for debate.

But it’s fair to say that some former and current Tennessee Vols stars are helping with the U.S. doing so well in Rio, and we have more updates for you on that today.

There’s also obviously some football news, including excitement behind the defensive line, speed, and Cameron Sutton.

All in all, this is a day where Vols fans can grab their coffee and keep their excitement up on Rocky Top. Let’s start with some football news.

12 Tennessee football players crack 20 miles per hour – John Brice of 247Sports

"It’s entirely likely Butch Jones might not have had a single player who could top 20 mph when he first arrived at the University of Tennessee in 2012.Now the Vols’ fourth-year head coach has by far his speediest roster — and newcomer Tyler Byrd presently rests atop the list."

Vols in Rio Olympics Update: Women’s basketball defeats Spain – UTSports

"The U.S. Olympic Women’s Basketball Team (2-0) eclipsed 100 points for the second day in a row, cruising past Spain (1-1), 103-63, Monday afternoon in Group B play at Deodoro Youth Arena. The U.S. improved to 10-0 in Olympic/World Championship competition against Spain.Diana Taurasi led five U.S. players in double figures, scoring 13 on four-of-eight shooting from the field. She connected on three-of-seven shots from beyond the three-point arc. Tennessee alum Tamika Catchings, playing in her fourth Olympiad, was scoreless on two field goals attempts but grabbed a defensive rebound in nine minutes of action."

Vols’ Cameron Sutton arguably top NFL Draft prospect at cornerback – Rob Rang of CBS Sports

"When discussing the top returning cornerbacks in college football, many will point to Iowa senior Desmond King — the reigning Thorpe Award winner — or Florida junior Jalen Tabor, who along with former teammate Vernon Hargreaves III, is coming off a campaign in which he earned first team All-SEC recognition.Perhaps because of all the attention heaped upon fellow Volunteers and All-SEC candidates Joshua Dobbs (QB), Jalen Hurd (RB), Derek Barnett (DE) and Jalen Reeves-Maybin (OLB), Cameron Sutton is not often enough cited as a candidate for this honor. The tape, however, suggests that he should be."

Vols Guard Dylan Wiesman amazed by defensive line improvement – Wes Rucker of 247Sports

"Wiesman said after Saturday’s practice on Haslam Field that several of the team’s defensive linemen have stepped up to augment a group that already had plenty of proven playmakers. He said senior tackles Kendal Vickers and Danny O’Brien continue to improve, and he also noted the progress of junior All-SEC defensive end Derek Barnett, promising sophomore defensive tackle Kahlil McKenzie, highly touted sophomore defensive end addition Jonathan Kongbo and others.“Oh, my goodness,” Wiesman said. “I mean, a perfect example is Kendal Vickers. He’s one of our strongest guys on the D-line. He came in at 240, and now he’s probably 295, and he’s one of our strongest guys.”"
