A Tennessee Vols Olympics gold medalist, football ticket designs, and other Olympics news headline the updates on Rocky Top for Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016.

Two weeks! We are exactly two weeks away from the start of the Tennessee football season. Who in Knoxville and Vol Nation across the world is not excited about that?

As the Olympics get close to ending, football season gets close to starting. However, the Olympics had a bit of a twist from the U.S. perspective Wednesday with the swimming team.

Unfortunately, that overshadowed a great accomplishment by a Tennessee Vol. We’ll get to that with the news today along with the preparation for football season two weeks away.

Let’s begin with the splashy Olympics news.

Vols in the Olympics – UTSports

"Tianna Bartoletta (formerly Tianna Madison) is the long jump Olympic Champion after clearing 7.17m (23-6.25). Bartoletta took the lead on her third attempt with a mark of 6.95m, but Brittney Reese and Ivana Spanovic both cleared the 7.00m mark to put pressure on Bartoletta. Bartoletta responded with a personal best jump of 7.17m to capture the gold medal.…Justin Gatlin finished third in the third and final semifinal of the 200m dash with a time of 20.13 which means Gatlin will not qualify for the finals. Gatlin finished with the ninth fastest qualifying time, .03 seconds away from qualifying for the finals."

Vols ticket program, designs revealed – Ryan Callahan of 247Sports

"Jonathan King, Tennessee’s director of creative services, posted a link to his designs for the Vols’ season tickets and programs for the 2016 season on his Twitter account this week, and the results once again are impressive."

"Knoxville police have reassigned the officer who served as liaison to the University of Tennessee’s football team for nearly 20 years. The change, which comes after a series of high-profile sexual assault cases involving football players and other athletes, was effective last week ahead of Knoxville Police Department Officer Sam Brown’s retirement in January, according to KPD spokesman Darrell DeBusk."
