College Gameday, Tennessee football’s depth chart, All-SEC picks, soccer and basketball headline the Volunteers news on Rocky Top for Friday, Aug. 26, 2016.

Happy Friday everybody! The Olympics are over, and we are about to enter the last weekend until next February with no football. Rocky Top is at its peak right now.

Actually, there is technically a game tonight. The California Golden Bears and Hawaii Rainbow Warriors play the first meaningful football game of the year on ESPN. Who’s not excited about that?

Football is back!

And there is lots of great football news in Knoxville as well. From a College Gameday location to a depth chart update to All-SEC picks, Tennessee football took over the media Thursday. Vols men’s basketball and soccer had some news too, which we’ll also get to.

But let’s first start with the football news.

ESPN’s College Gameday headed to Battle at Bristol – Andy Bitter of the Roanoke Times

"Kirk Herbstreit said on a Facebook Live video Thursday and an ESPN representative later confirmed that the traveling college football pre-game show will indeed set up in Bristol, Tennessee, for the Virginia Tech-Tennessee game on Sept. 10. The stage location and setup will be decided in the next week. The game is scheduled for 8 p.m. kickoff and will be televised by ABC."

Vols lead East in Coaches’ All-SEC picks – John Brice of 247Sports

"Just one week before its season-opening game, Tennessee finds respect — and further amplifying expectations from peer coaches in the Southeastern Conference. The Vols on Thursday saw a whopping nine selections on the official 2016 SEC Coaches’ All-SEC teams, including a trio of first-teamers on defense: end Derek Barnett, linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin and cornerback Cam Sutton, who also earned third-team return specialist."

Mike DeBord says Quinten Dormady earned backup quarterback job – Wes Rucker of 247Sports

"As excited as offensive coordinator Mike DeBord is about Jarrett Guarantano — and everyone is excited about Guarantano — the fact is he’s also really excited about Quinten Dormady.DeBord said Dormady — a sophomore who was named Tennessee’s primary backup to senior starter Joshua Dobbs on Tuesday — had his “best practice” Monday, and that he’s had a “great” preseason camp overall."

Men’s basketball: Schofield changing goals for sophomore season – Wes Rucker of 247Sports

"Admiral Schofield was listed at 6-foot-5 last season, and the updated roster heading into this season lists him 6-foot-4.Regardless of whether Schofield actually is shrinking — and wouldn’t that be fascinating? — the fact is Tennessee’s versatile sophomore spends most of his time at the power forward position despite being shorter than some guards.Despite that, Schofield didn’t flinch when asked which area of his game was going to be his biggest strength going forward."

Women’s soccer loses to Washington 1-0 – UTSports

"Tennessee’s active scoring leader, Hannah Wilkinson, made her return for the Vols on Thursday night and led the team with three shots on goal in a 1-0 loss to Washington at Regal Soccer Stadium.Wilkinson checked into the game in the 22nd minute and played the remainder of the match for UT in her first game back since the 2014 season finale against Kentucky in the SEC Tournament semifinals."
