Changing ‘Third Down for What,’ a Tennessee football legacy recruit, injuries, and the opener headline Vols news on Rocky Top for Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2016.


We’re two days away! Rocky Top is filled with excitement for the Tennessee football opener against the Appalachian State Mountaineers.

As the Vols get set to begin their 2016 season, ranked in the Top 10 for the first time in over a decade, a few changes have been announced to plans at Neyland Stadium.

On top of that, recruiting is still a big deal.

And of course, injury reports on the roster and previews for the opener have taken center stage. We take a look at all of that here, beginning with a surprising change.

Vols to change from ‘Third Down for What’ – John Brice of 247Sports

"Confirming what 247Sports reported two weeks ago, fourth-year Tennessee coach Butch Jones reiterated on Monday that his ninth-ranked Vols will not utilize the mercurial “Third Down For What” Lil Jon rap song this season on third-down plays inside Neyland Stadium.“We’re going to do some things a little bit differently on third down. We’ll mix up some different songs, so we won’t have ‘Third Down For What,’ but we’ll have some different songs to get our crowd energized,” Jones said."

Vols remain cautious with Shy Tuttle, Jauan Jennings – Jonathan Toye of The Tennessean

"Tennessee football coach Butch Jones said Monday that sophomore receiver Jauan Jennings, sophomore defensive tackle Shy Tuttle and junior college transfer defensive tackle Alexis Johnson will all be available for Thursday’s season opener against Appalachian State at Neyland Stadium.Jones didn’t say how many snaps each player will receive during the game."

Vols offer legacy player – Ryan Callahan of 247Sports

"Freshman offensive lineman Cooper Mays of Knoxville (Tenn.) Catholic High School posted on his Twitter account Monday night that he received a scholarship offer from Tennessee.“Just got the news that I earned my first scholarship from the University of Tennessee!” he tweeted.It was the first offer for the 6-foot-2, 250-pound Mays, who’s the younger brother of Vols commitment Cade Mays — a five-star offensive lineman in the 2018 class — and the son of former Tennessee offensive lineman Kevin Mays."
