This is a tough opening game for the Vols. They don’t necessarily need to cover the spread in this game because the Mountaineers are such a rough match-up. In his fourth year as head coach, Butch Jones probably knows how dangerous this team is.

Appalachian State, meanwhile, is in its fourth year in FBS play and coming off an 11-2 year under Scott Satterfield. With high expectations this year to win the Sun Belt, they’d like nothing better than to start the season off with a bang by playing spoiler to Tennessee’s season.
They did that in FCS play against the Michigan Wolverines in 2007. Can they do it again Thursday night in Knoxville?
