Tennessee vs Virginia Tech: Vols Dominate Hokies 45-24 in Battle at Bristol
The Tennessee vs Virginia Tech Battle at Bristol match-up ended with total domination from the Volunteers after the first quarter.
Joshua Dobbs put up five touchdowns and the Tennessee vs Virginia Tech historic Battle at Bristol match-up ended with the Vols overcoming a 14-point first quarter deficit to win 45-24.
The Hokies out-gained the Vols by 70 yards, but Virginia Tech committed five turnovers and Tennessee scored 31 unanswered points in the process.
Tennessee could not get anything going in the first quarter. The Hokies relied on Sam Rogers and Jerod Evans to build a 14-0 lead, and all Vols fans began to worry that last week’s struggles against the Appalachian State Mountaineers wasn’t a fluke.
However, a fumble in the second quarter by Virginia Tech changed the momentum. Dobbs turned that into a touchdown pass to Jauan Jennings.
The next drive, Dobbs hit Josh Malone on a bomb for another touchdown pass.
Then Tennessee picked up a field goal, and Dobbs ran for a touchdown at the end of the half to carry the Vols into halftime with a 24-14 lead.
In the second half, Dobbs hit Alvin Kamara for a touchdown pass. And after Virginia Tech cut it to 31-17, he ran for another touchdown.
Tennessee’s offense appeared to struggle moving the ball all night, but they made the crucial plays when needed.
Butch Jones made an important switch at center from Coleman Thomas to Dylan Wiesman, and the protection improved dramatically.
Unfortunately, the Vols suffered an injury at linebacker to Darrin Kirkland Jr.
Still, the historic Tennessee vs Virginia Tech game ended with the Vols victorious. They leave the Battle at Bristol 2-0 despite falling behind by two scores in each of their wins.
Now they have to get ready for the Ohio Bobcats, the final tune-up game before the Florida Gators.
