A defensive award for last week, Tennessee football injuries, and golf headline the Volunteers updates on Rocky Top for Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016.

Well that was fun. After a recap of the Battle at Bristol, Vols fans on Rocky Top are ready to look ahead in this young football season.

With a 2-0 record and the Ohio Bobcats up next, the prospect of being undefeated when they host the Florida Gators next week is now very real and should be a likelihood.

Tennessee has some good news regarding a bit of recognition for an unlikely hero from the Battle at Bristol.

But there is some bad news with key injuries as well.

And we’ve got a bit of non-football news to bring you. Let’s get to all of that now.

Vols’ Micah Abernathy named SEC Defensive Player of the Week – Wes Rucker of 247Sports

"Micah Abernathy was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week, and Tennessee’s sophomore safety learned the news on a conference call with his coaches.Less than 10 minutes before the SEC released the news publicly, Vols coach Butch Jones, defensive coordinator Bob Shoop and the rest of their defensive staff called Abernathy to inform him."

Two Vols defenders out against Ohio – Mark Bergin of WBIR

"Sophomore linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. and redshirt senior defensive lineman LaTroy Lewis will miss Saturday’s game against Ohio due to ankle injuries, according to Tennessee football coach Butch Jones.Both Kirkland and Lewis are starters for Tennessee."

Vols Golf update at Mercedes – UTSports

"Tennessee, the 23rd-ranked team in the country by Golfweek, tied for fifth place (576, +8) with BYU at the conclusion of the first two rounds of the 20th Annual Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship hosted at Cherokee Country Club (par 71, 5,897 yards) on Monday."
