Tennessee Volunteers cornerback Cameron Sutton fractured his ankle but won’t miss the full year. Chance Hall and Jalen Reeves-Maybin could play Saturday.

Well, the Tennessee Vols finally have a bit of good news after an ugly win over the Ohio Bobcats. And with the Florida Gators coming to town, it couldn’t come at a batter time.

Butch Jones announced in his Monday press conference that senior cornerback Cam Sutton has a fractured ankle. Although that is still bad news, it means things are brighter than they were Saturday, when the only report was that he would be out an ‘extended period of time.’

Now, reports are that he won’t miss the entire season.

Here is the full press conference.

The best bet is that Sutton could return down the stretch for the final three games of the year, and that could be perfect for the Vols. Yes, it’s bad they won’t have him for the four-game brutal stretch in October, but we knew that Saturday.

At least he’ll be back at the end of the year if the Vols have something to play for.

Meanwhile, Jones said that Jalen Reeves-Maybin and Chance Hall were both at practice Monday. Reeves-Maybin expects to play against Florida.

That’s huge news, as the Vols can’t afford to be without him, Sutton, and Kirkland.

And let’s be clear: Reeves-Maybin is the most important guy in that unit.

On offense, the line got a big boost with Hall’s return to practice. Jones didn’t say whether or not he expects Hall to be ready to go this Saturday. But his return is huge.

If he can get on the field, DeBord is likely to use Hall and Brett Kendrick as his two starters up front this week.

That means Coleman Thomas and Drew Richmond would probably move to the bench. But they will still be in the rotation.

Unfortunately, Quart’e Sapp is done for the season with a torn ACL, and Kirkland will once again be out against the Gators. After Colton Jumper struggled last year against Florida, that is a huge concern.

But given what everybody was thinking Saturday, the return of Reeves-Maybin and Hall along with Sutton’s timetable is a huge boost of good news for the Vols.
