Tennessee football’s rankings, slow starts, Texas A&M game info, and three other sports lead the Volunteers news on Rocky Top for Monday, Oct. 3, 2016.

Going back to last Monday, most Vols fans on Rocky Top probably thought they couldn’t top that feeling heading to work. Well, this Monday may be even better.

After an insane win over the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday that ended with a Hail Mary, arguably the greatest play in Vols history, Tennessee is 5-0 and 2-0 in the SEC with wins over Florida and Georgia.

So fans are ecstatic.

Now, with the East all but locked up, talk about the College Football Playoff, the next two huge games, and where the Vols rank all come into play.

We’ll analyze that here along with three other sporting events that happened over the weekend in Vol country. But let’s begin with football, as always.

Vols No. 9 in both polls – The Tennessean

"Tennessee’s win over Georgia moved it into the top 10 in both college football polls."

Vols-Aggies on CBS at 3:30; College GameDay coming back – WBIR

"They were there at Bristol when the Vols beat the Hokies in the largest attendance for college football game ever. Then they traveled to Neyland a week later to watch the Vols end an 11-year losing streak against the Florida Gators.ESPN’s College GameDay must have an obsession with Tennessee Football this season because next week they will travel down to College Station when the Vols take on Texas A&M."

Vols coach Butch Jones ‘mind-boggled’ by slow starts – Ryan Callahan of 247Sports

"After another emotional win over an SEC East rival, Tennessee coach Butch Jones had no explanation Saturday for the one glaring issue that has continued to trip up the Vols.They still aren’t playing well in the first half."

Vols soccer beats Indiana State – UTSports

"Hannah Wilkinson continued her climb up the Tennessee record charts with both of the Volunteers’ goals in Sunday afternoon’s 2-1 overtime victory over Indiana State at Regal Soccer Stadium.Wilkinson scored her ninth-career game-winning goal with a first-class finish from 18 yards out in overtime to help UT end its two-game losing streak. With her two goals today, the New Zealand native moved into a three-way tie for third on Tennessee’s all-time goals list with 28. She also moved up to fifth on the Vols’ career scoring list with 71 points."

Tennis: Jakovljevic reachs ITA qualifying rounds – UTSports

"Tennessee sophomore Srdjan Jakovljevic won two more pre-qualifying matches Sunday to advance to the qualifying stage at the ITA All-American Championships.Jakovljevic defeated UCLA’s Austin Rapp 6-3, 6-3 in the third round and Indiana’s Keivon Tabrizi 6-3, 6-3 later in the final round of pre-qualifying."

Vols volleyball falls 3-1 at No. 5 Florida – UTSports

"The Tennessee Volunteers took the second set but could not close other close sets in a 3-1 loss to fifth-ranked Florida on Sunday at the Lemerand Center.Freshman outside hitter Tessa Grubbs finished with 17 kills while adding four digs and three blocks to lead the Vols (10-6, 1-3 SEC)."
