Tennessee football recognition, Alabama kickoff time, men’s basketball, and tennis lead the Volunteers updates on Rocky Top for Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2016.
It’s time to get full on into Texas A&M mode for football season, even if fans on Rocky Top still want to relish in their victory over the Georgia Bulldogs from last week.
At 5-0, this is an exciting time for Tennessee football, and the recognition they are getting deserves some coverage.
On top of the football news, there is more exciting sports stuff, including men’s basketball getting ready to start.
And there are plenty of other Fall sports happening right now. So we have a lot to get to in our news today.
But let’s begin with the important football stuff.
Barnett, Lovingood SEC defensive and special teams players of the week – SECSports
"For the second-straight week, (Derek) Barnett’s standout play in the second half helped Tennessee seize control of the game en route to a comeback victory. He finished with five tackles, 2.0 sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss and a forced fumble in the end zone that resulted in a defensive touchdown.…(Riley) Lovingood was part of one of the most unique plays late in the game on Saturday. With 3:43 remaining in the fourth quarter, Lovingood snapped the ball to punter Trevor Daniel, who booted the ball 37 yards high in the air to the UGA 6-yard line. Lovingood raced down the field to make the catch, downing the ball at the UGA 6."
Tennessee-Alabama kickoff set for 3:30 p.m. on CBS – WBIR
"For the fourth week in a row, the Vols will get the SEC’s top afternoon slot on CBS.The conference announced kickoff times for the Oct. 15 slate of games on Monday, and the Tennessee/Alabama matchup will start at 3:30 p.m."

Tennis: Stodder moves on in ITA Qualifying – UTSports
"Tennessee sophomore Timo Stodder won his opening qualifying match Monday at the ITA All-American Championships.Stodder advanced to the second round with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Julian Childers of Illinois. The sophomore from Berlin, Germany, improved to 4-1 to start his second year with the Vols."
